Easy Recipe for Baked Pork Chops and Rice

This recipe for baked pork chops and rice is one of our favorite pork chop recipes and one of our all-time favorite recipes. It's a combination of Mom and Grandma's pork chop recipes, and it is insanely good!

Seriously, even my picky eaters love this delicious dinner, and it's easy enough for busy weeknights. If you love easy recipes as much as I do, you're going to love this simple pork chop recipe! This is a lot like my grandma's chicken and rice recipe, except you use pork instead of chicken.

Even though we love baked breaded pork chops, grilled pork chops and air fryer pork chops, and ranch pork chops and potatoes, this pork chop and rice bake screams comfort food.

Ingredients

You only need a few simple ingredients for this recipe for baked pork chops and rice. You should be able to find them in your grocery store if you don't already have them at home. Full amounts are in the printable recipe card below.

  • Pork chops-- Look for bone-in pork chops about 1 inch thick for best results
  • Jasmine rice -- or any long grain white rice
  • Butter -- for richer flavor
  • Cream of celery soup -- or cream of chicken soup
  • Cream of onion soup --or cream of mushroom
  • Seasonings -- garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, smoked paprika and dried parsley (optional)
  • Water --or chicken broth for extra flavor

How to Make Baked Pork Chops and Rice

First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees f. Then, spray a large baking dish or casserole dish with non stick spray.

Next, season pork chops with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and pepper. Make sure to season both sides of the chops.

Then, rinse your rice under cold water and drain it. Add the rinsed cup of rice to your baking dish. Also, melt butter in the microwave.

Then, add about half the melted butter, water or broth, and the cream of celery and cream of onion soups to the rice. Mix well, and smooth the rice mixture evenly over the bottom of the baking dish. I usually mix everything in the baking dish, but you can do this in a bowl and transfer to the dish if you prefer.

Now, place the pork chops on top of the rice mixture in a single layer. Make sure the rice is submerged in the liquid. You may have to scrape some off of the pork chops or the sides of the casserole dish.

Drizzle the remaining melted butter over the pork chops. I also added some dried parsley flakes over the pork chops. If you don't have them, that's fine.

When everything's added, cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil. This is necessary to allow steam to build up and cook the rice. Don't worry--it's perfectly safe to cook raw pork chops and raw rice together!

Cooking Time

Cook the pork and rice dish for 30 minutes at 350 degrees f, keeping it covered. Then, remove the aluminum foil. Be careful-- the steam will be very hot, so use oven mitts!

Bake the pork and rice uncovered for another 30 minutes, for a total of 1 hour in the oven.

All ovens are different, so make sure that the pork chops have reached an internal temperature of 145 degrees f, according to a meat thermometer or instant-read thermometer and that the rice is cooked. You may need to add a little more baking time depending on your oven.

Once these easy baked pork chops are fully cooked, take the casserole dish out of the oven and let it sit at room temperature for about 5 minutes. The rice will absorb extra liquid as it cools.

And there you have it! Delicious pork chops and creamy, flavorful rice -- the perfect comfort food meal!

What to Serve with Pork Chops and Rice

So, what do you serve with pork chops? You already have rice, so give your meal a bit of green with your favorite veggies. We love steamed broccoli or air fryer broccoli. Green beans and frozen peas are other sides that go well with this pork chops and rice bake.

Variations

There are great ways to customize this pork and rice dish to your liking!

Feel free to use whatever cream soups you like best. I usually use cream of celery and cream of onion soup, but cream of mushroom soup and cream of chicken soup also work well. You can skip the spices and add a packet of onion soup mix if you prefer.

If you're like my son, and cheese is one of your favorite things in the whole world, sprinkle on some of your favorite shredded cheese during the last 10 minutes of baking time. Cheddar cheese is our go-to!

Helpful Cooking Tips

Thick bone-in chops work best. Boneless pork chops are not the best choice for this recipe as they tend to cook faster than the rice and may dry out with the long cook time.

You can use any kind of long grain white rice. Minute rice or pre-cooked rice won't work for this pork and rice recipe. Brown rice needs a longer cooking time, and isn't recommended.

How to Store and Reheat

Store any leftover pork chops and rice in an airtight container in the refrigerator, where it'll keep for 3 to 4 days. For longer storage, you can freeze the dish in a freezer safe container.

I would recommend reheating individual portions in the microwave. But, it can be done in the oven.

If you're reheating the whole dish, or most of it, you can put it back in the oven at 325 degrees f. For a smoother reheating process, take the pork off the bone before you pop it back into the oven. How much time it needs depends on how much pork there is left.

  • 4-6 bone in pork chops
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes optional
  • 1 stick butter melted
  • 1 ½ cups jasmine rice or any long grain white rice, rinsed
  • 1 10-oz can cream of celery soup
  • 1 10-oz can cream of onion soup or use cream of mushroom
  • 1 cup water or chicken broth

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350℉ and grease large baking dish with non stick spray

  • Season pork chops on both sides with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika and pepper

  • Rinse rice well under cold water, and place in baking dish

  • Add cream soups, half of the melted butter, and water, and mix together with rice. Smooth rice evenly over bottom of baking dish

  • Place pork chops over rice, and drizzle remaining melted butter over pork chops

  • Cover with aluminum foil, and bake for 30 minutes. Then, remove foil, and bake uncovered for an additional 30 minutes or until pork chops are 145 degrees internally, according to meat thermometer, and rice is cooked

  • Remove from oven, and allow to rest for 5 minutes before serving

Use lowfat, reduced sodium or healthy request versions of cream soup if desired. Use your favorite flavors -- cream of chicken or mushroom work well.

Use jasmine or any long grain white rice, uncooked, but not Minute rice or pre-cooked rice.

The rice will continue to absorb the liquid as it rests, but it will be very creamy.

Add salt if desired, to taste
