San Diego Comic-Con 2023 is back, and with it came a ton of news from the world of entertainment.
If you were unable to attend SDCC this year, no worries. IGN covered SDCC 2023 live and in-person, bringing you all the biggest news coming out of the convention. If you want to learn more about the collectibles and figurines announced at SDCC, check out our separate roundup on the topic.
Here's a quick recap of everything announced during San Diego Comic-Con 2023.
A day prior to SDCC starting, IGN exclusively revealed a poster for the highly anticipated second season of Prime Video's adult animated series Invincible.
Another piece of news coming a day before SDCC was from Skybound Games, where the developer unveiled that it is working on a new multiplayer social deception survival game set in The Walking Dead universe. The Walking Dead: Betrayl will have players trying to survive the undead outbreak, where you will craft, cook, survive and communicate with party memebers, and maybe do a little bit of decieving along the way.
The Walking Dead: Betrayal is out later this year and wil release exlcusively on PC via Steam. A closed beta test is set for August 10.
DC and Legendary Entertainment announced a new crossover comic series produced in partnership with Toho International. The series will span seven-issues, with the first issue releasing sometime in October.
Leading up to San Diego Comic-Con 2023, Amazon Studios teased a September release window for its college-themed TV series. But on the first day of the convention, the studio revealed that GenV will premiere on September 29 with three episodes with the first season finale scheduled for November 3.
During an interview with us, Diablo IV associate game director Joe Piepiora addressed the disconnect deaths that hardcore players have been experiencing while playing the game. Piepiora suggested that the Scroll of Escape could circumvent the issue. But Piepiora also explained that Blizzard is making a number of performance adjustments in Diablo IV's first season that will help improve the connectivity.
Piepiora also elaborated more on Blizzard's thought process around the controversial drop rate for Diablo 4's coveted Uber Unique items.
Lionsgate Films announced that its upcoming live-action adaptation of Borderlands will arrive on August 9, 2024. The film was announced back in 2015 and is being directed and written by Eli Roth.

Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake, a spinoff series on Cartoon Network's critically-acclaimed animated series, will premiere on August 31. Alongside a release date we got our first trailer for the series.
After lukewarm viewership reception, Disney announced that it is releasing the first three episodes of Marvel's Secret Invasion to Hulu for a limited time starting tomorrow, July 21 and will be pulled from Hulu on August 17.
After 25 years as the protagonist of the Pokemon anime, Ash Ketchum and his pal Pikachu will bid the audience a fairtwell in Pokemon Ultimate Journeys. While the series aired first in Japan, fans based in the United States will get to watch Ash's final arc, when the series hits Netflix on September 8.
Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies decided to show over 20 minutes of new footage for its upcoming animated film based on the TMNT property. While we have an article that goes deeper into what was shown during the panel, be warned that it will spoil a good chunk of the movie before it hits theatres on August 2.

Harley Quinn's fourth season premieres less than a week from now, and Warner Bros. Discovery shared a new trailer ahead of the premiere next week. The new two-minute-long trailer that premiered at SDCC showed us Harley Quinn. The show's supervising producers also shared some new details on the upcoming season, including how they had to add "some plump" to Nightwing's butt.
During the TMNT: Mutant Mayhem panel, Nickelodeon confirmed that it has secured the rights to all 193 episodes of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series that aired from 1987 to 1996.
As a tie-in for Spider-Man 2 which is out in a few months, Sony unveiled a new limited edition PS5 that is themed after the notable webslinger. The console and controller are black with a splash of red. Those that purchase the bundle will also recieve a digital copy of Spider-Man 2 and pre-orders open up next Friday, July 28.
At SDCC, Insomniac Games and PlayStation released a new trailer for Spider-Man 2, which gives us an in-depth look at Venom and touches a bit more on the upcoming game's story. The trailer not only gives us a closer look at Venom, but other characters such as Kraven the Hunter, Harry Osborn, and Mister Negative, too. The Spider-Man 2 panel at SDCC also revealed new details about the game. This includes confirmation that Spider-Man 2 is set roughly 9-10 months after the events of Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
Marvel Comics released a new teaser poster asking fans "who are the new X-Men?" The teaser promises comic fans that it will reveal the new team of mutants next year, with a sneak preview coming sometime this November.
Bad City is a crime thriller directed by Kensuke Sonomura. Last September, Well Go USA announced it acquired the North American rights to the film, and it will release digitally on August 1, with a DVD and Blu-Ray release coming on September 2019. A trailer debuted during the Kung Fu Extravaganza panel at this year's SDCC.
Marvel Studios showed off the second trailer for its upcoming MCU film The Marvels. While hitting some similar beats we saw in the teaser; the latest trailer gives us a better look at our female-led supergroup ahead of its November 10 release date.
Borderlands EchoVision Live is a new interactive streaming series set in the Borderlands Universe. Focusing on eight tourists, all newcomers to the Borderlands series, find themselves stuck on Eden-6 after embarking on an "Adventure Safari" to follow in the footsteps of Vault Hunters.
Image Comics revealed that comedian Andy Samberg and Fall Out Boy's Joe Trohman are making a comic called Holy Roller. The comic is bowling ball-wielding vigilante who fends of Neo-Nazis that have invaded his hometown.
The first issue is out on November 22, 2023.
AMC announced that two of its Walking Dead Spinoffs, Daryl Dixon and Dead City are getting a second season.
Dead City premiered last month and focuses on Maggie and Negan as they venture through a post-apocalyptic New York City as they look for Maggie’s son Herschel.
While The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, as the name implies, focuses on fan-favorite Daryl Dixon as he finds himself in France and is looking to find his way back home. While the series does not premiere until September, those that are a fan of the character can look forward to at least two seasons.
AMC has provided a teaser trailer for its upcoming Walking Dead spinoff show focused on Rick Grimes and Michonne. AMC also revealed that the new series has a new title: The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. The series will continue Rick and Michonne’s love story and will release sometime next year.
Producers for Rick and Morty shared new details on the upcoming season of the wildly popular adult animation show. One of the biggest takeaways was that the producers are "closing in" on recasting for the characters Justin Roiland voiced. The producers also revealed that season 7 is coming "pretty dang soon."

As part of the Rick and Morty 10th Annivesary panel, Adult Swim shared the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Rick and Morty: The Anime series.
Peaco*ck officially announced that The Continental will premiere on September 22. The series serves as a prequel spinoff for the John Wick films. The three-part series will be released weekly, with the final episode scheduled to premiere on October 6.
The leaks and rumors are true! NetherRealm Studios has officially confirmed that Homelander, Peacemaker, and Omni-Man will appear as guest characters in Mortal Kombat 1. And during an interview on the Comic-Con show flow, actor J.K Simmons who portrays Omni-Man on the animated series Invincible will reprise his role in Mortal Kombat 1.
These three, plus returning Mortal Kombat characters Quan Chi, Ermac, and Takeda, will be available as part of the first DLC Kombat Pack.
NetherRealm also revealed three additional characters joining the roster for the base game of Mortal Kombat 1: Li Mei, Tanya, and Baraka will appear on the roster, but not as Kameos, the new (and controversial) system in Mortal Kombat 1 that sidelines some fan-favorite characters and makes them unplayable assists.

Warner Bros. Entertainment shared a new trailer for its upcoming feature film Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage, which debuts on October 17. It's the fourth animated film in the Mortal Kombat franchise and focused on Johnny Cage's journey to become a famous actor in 1980s Hollywood.
In a panel called "AI in Entertainment: The Performers' Perspective," SAG-AFTRA's chief negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland helped clarify how fans can still cosplay as their favorite TV show and movie characters while also supporting the ongoing strikes.
Marvel revealed that a new Punisher is coming to its comic book universe following the conclusion of the previous comic. According to Marvel, the new Punisher's identity of Joe Garrison, a former black ops agent for SHIELD.

At long last! Amazon Studios has officially unveiled that the release date for the second season of its animated superhero show Invincible will premiere on November 3. The show premiered in March 2021 and before the season 1 finale aired, Amazon renewed it for two more seasons.
DC announced that its next two animated movies hitting the small screens are Crisis on Infinite Earths and Watchmen, two of the most iconic graphic novels released in the 1980s. Both films are expected to release sometime next year.
IDW Publishing confirmed that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin II - Re-Evolution is in the works. The first issue is out on December 13, 2023. In addition to news about a sequel to one of the most popular TMNT comics to release in recent years, IGN can exclusively debut new sketch artwork from The Last Ronin II, which you can check out above.
Paramount confirmed that the fourth season of Star Trek: Lower Decks will premiere on September 7 and dropped a new teaser poster, with a design that pays homage to the 1986 film, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
We also got a first look at the final season of Star Trek: Discovery and confirmation that episode seven in the second season of Strange New Worlds will air a few days early on Paramount+ and will be a crossover episode with Lower Decks. While the series’ ninth episode, which airs on August 3, was confirmed to be a musical episode.
High on Life, Squanch Games' first-person comedy shooter released last year, is making its way to PS4 and PS5, and it's available now. High on Life was originally released on PC and Xbox last December and was an Xbox console exclusive until now.
The company is currently working on High on Knife, a DLC announced in June, and IGN debuted nine minutes of exclusive gameplay, which you can check out above.

Netflix announced at SDCC that the fifth season of its anime series The Dragon Prince is now available. The next season in this fantasy series wss supposed to premiere on July 27.
Ubisoft Massive shared new details on its upcoming open-world game set in a galaxy far, far away. In an interview, the dev team told us the first two locations revealed for the game (so far): the new moon Toshara and Tatooine. Ubisoft Massive even confirmed that players can work for and even betray Jabba the Hutt.
In a separate panel focused on the game, Ubisoft Massive creative director Julian Gerighty teased that Star Wars Outlaws may have a cooking system. "...food is incredibly important to the world of Star Wars," Gerighty said during the panel. "And if you enjoy food and discovering alien concoctions, this is going to be an exciting experience for you."
