A not so honest practice of a huge retailerI'm sorry to have to start the year with this little news, but felt a citizen's duty to do it.It's Costco-for details please see below. This morning I searched the gas price for this location and was very happy to find the figure mentioned below (131.9 CAD). However, once at the pump, within 30 min of checking, I had to pay 134.99 CAD. Naturally, I went to the local manager and asked why so. To my dismay, I've learned that the posted price is subject to adjustment hourly or so (since they look over in the area for competitors' prices), and under the circ*mstances, my question was why it is not specified that the price is not guaranteed and it's going to fluctuate hourly or every so many minutes, according to the market. Now, no one is so naive to believe that Costco would suffer losses if they kept their word on the online posted gas price. It's about something else here: the size of the benefit is at play, or otherwise put: greed. It is such a shame because I generally like this concept of business. I used to like Costco, particularly this location in Vaughan. I might change my mind though. Wouldn't you too?

One reason not to cancel your Costco membership. You do a lot of driving. Many make the argument that Costco costs you more money than it saves.Costco gasoline prices in my area are consistently lower by at least 20 cents a gallon. If you use 20 gallons a week that’s $4 saved each week which comes out to $208 per year. That more than makes up for the cost of membership. You could save even more if you use their credit card and get 4% cash back on fuel.I would still advise shopping intentionally at the warehouse or you could easily spend all your savings in one shopping trip.—————————————————————————👋 Hi! Customer Obsessed companies are in the business of giving customers what they want before they know they need it. If you'd like to delve into that topic in more depth consult the book Blueprint for Customer Obsession, Chapter 5. For now, I'd like to share a great example of this practice provided by Costco Wholesale. In their first quarter earnings report, Costco announced that they had sold $100M worth of one ounce gold bars to members over the course of one quarter. That piqued my interest, and if I didn't have your full attention before, I'm sure I've got it now because you're probably wondering why people are buying gold bars from Costco. The answer lies in one word - TRUST.Many people are interested in adding gold to their investment portfolio but they haven't taken the plunge because they don't know who they can trust or they think it's too complicated. There's no shortage of companies out there who are offering gold for sale, but which ones are legit and which ones are scams? Which ones can be trusted to be around for a long time and which ones will fold after a few months or years of operation? That's where Costco comes in. Over time they have built up a reputation with their members that the items they sell are top quality and that they stand firmly behind any items they sell. They have built up a reputation for taking members on a treasure hunt by making surprise items available whenever they enter the store or browse digital properties. As such, when members come across gold bars, they aren't spooked and don't have any qualms about whether the bars legit or not. They can buy with full confidence and they do. That's a high level of trust considering the purchase.Customer trust is a prized jewel that Customer Obsessed companies strive to acquire and then guard meticulously. Frankly every company should! As for giving customers what they want before they know they need it, even though Costco members might have known they needed to add gold to their portfolios, they didn't know they needed it from Costco.More details are in the article below. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this topic.https://lnkd.in/eBUqnqnd#costco #cx #customerexperience #customerobsession #customerobsessed #gold #cmo

Another quick observation today at Costco. Highly inefficient and ineffective consumer market. Glad I stuck to the tomatoes and lip balm. I thought the other day that Costco bulk sizes are a scam. Ever read the "nutritional" food labels given the product size? Or do you focus on the distraction of the food size and quantity per kilogram as a time, motion, and money saver deal? What about the people walking and driving and the parking lot exit? Frustrating? Want to buy more to sooth the nerves? Or do we put in an intersection light to smooth the traffic flow? Are your purchases rebating adequately to cover your membership? All an escalation of commitment? I was again shocked to see what was sold and what people buy. I used to be a sheep too. Glad I woke up.

Interesting to see at Penny discount: The promo gate for chilled items is branded 'Weekly deal', accompanied by '%' percentage signs to illustrate price reductions in a high-low grocery market. And on the majority of price labels no cross-prices to be seen. Legal fine print: From May 2022 retailers in Germany must show the lowest price during the past 30 days when using cross-prices.

Did You Know Costco is Now Selling Gold Bars? 💰 💲 During ongoing economic fluctuations, Costco has introduced gold bars for sale to their customers. Gold is a well-regarded safe investment, especially valuable during times of economic uncertainty. Why This Is a Smart Move 👍 🕵♂️ This strategic addition to Costco's inventory goes beyond just diversifying products—it directly addresses consumer concerns about financial stability. By offering gold, a commodity known to maintain its value, Costco aligns itself with the needs of customers looking for secure investment options during unpredictable economic times. What This Means 🚀Costco's move to sell gold bars is not just about expanding what they sell. It positions them as a thoughtful leader in retail, attuned to the broader needs of their customers. Offering gold helps build customer trust, showing that Costco is a place where you can get both everyday necessities and make significant financial decisions.Considering the Risks ⚠️Buying gold from Costco is quite different from your regular shopping trip. You won't find gold bars next to the usual bulk goods in-store; they're exclusively available online through Costco's website, requiring a membership for purchase. Remember, owning gold isn't as simple as carrying it home like a grocery bag—its value and the recent uptick in thefts mean you'll need to think carefully about security. Consider investing in a robust safe or using a bank’s safety deposit box to store your gold securely. This ensures your investment remains safe and doesn’t turn into a major headacheWhat are your thoughts on buying gold from a retailer like Costco? Would you consider it a wise addition to your investment portfolio? 💬🤔
