While we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it an A- for our inspections rating. This score is significantly more impressive than the facility's overall grade. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. It is typically in your best interest to avoid nursing homes that have a long list of deficiencies. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We awarded this nursing home a grade of just D for our long-term care score and that actually wound up as its second best score. For prospective residents in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 99.1573 percent of its residents, which is more than most nursing homes. Surprisingly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

This facility ended up receiving rock bottom score in our nursing category. It received an F in this category. There are a number of criteria included in this area. Many of these subcategories reflect staffing levels. This particular nursing home offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This figure is quite a bit below average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This facility fared well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Turning to our next category, this facility really did not perform well in this category either. Due to a bottom of the barrel grade of F in short-term care, this is about as bad as it gets. Short-term care ratings are meaningful for residents in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a broad range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final measure we considered in this area is the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.8 percent of its residents returning home.
